Box Top Bonanza at Albertsons

I finally found some time this afternoon to look at the Sunday Idaho Statesman.

What a surprise I found when I came to the Albertsons’ ad. It’s Box Top bonus time at the grocery store for General Mills products. When you buy 10 participating General Mills Box Tops for Education products, like Cheerios, Lucky Charms, Golden Grahams, and other cereals as well as Nature Valley granola bars and Fiber One bars, you will get 60 bonus Box Tops. That’s $6, plus the Box Tops on the actual products, for Discovery! And I’ve noticed a lot of Box Top products have double Box Tops on their packaging right now for the start of the school year.

Although I already did my shopping for the week, I think I’m going to have to make a trip to Albertsons on Labor Day to stock up on some cereal and granola bars, with many of the products also on sale.

If you want to take advantage of the Box Top bonus, you better hurry; the Albertsons deal only lasts through Tuesday, Sept. 2.

I'll be on the lookout for more Box Top bonus deals and will keep you posted!

Melissa Slocum Wins PTA School Supply Basket

I hope everyone had a fantastic first day of school!

The Discovery Elementary PTA got off to a great start this school year at Friday’s Meet and Greet by selling spirit wear and PTA memberships. We had 20 people sign up to join the PTA on Friday. It was so great to see so many familiar and new faces.

Those who purchased PTA memberships also had the opportunity to put their students’ teachers’ names into a drawing for a basket of school supplies.

Congratulations to third-grade teacher Melissa Slocum who won the basket of goodies, and thank you to everyone who made purchases to help support Discovery Elementary!

If you didn’t sign up yet for PTA but are curious about what we do and what fun activities we are planning this year, be sure to come to the first meeting of the year at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2, in the Health Room.

Say Hello to the PTA at Discovery’s Meet and Greet

It’s hard to believe that the final days of summer vacation are winding down. Next week, we’ll be making school lunches, getting the kids to the bus stop on time, and supervising homework in the evenings.

We hope we get a chance to see you on Friday at Discovery’s Meet and Greet from 2 to 4 p.m. Please stop by the PTA table to say hello and share your thoughts about what you would like to see us do this year!

You also can pick up your Discovery spirit wear. Short-sleeved Discovery shirts will be available for $10, and you can order long-sleeved shirts and hoodies as well.

But most important, you can sign up to join the Discovery Elementary PTA. This is a way that you can benefit your children and help enhance their school experience. PTA helps you keep up with what’s going on at school.

We know that most parents’ lives are jam-packed, so you can decide what type of commitment you can give to the school. If you only have 30 minutes to give once or twice a year, that’s fine. Or if you have more time on your hands, we’re looking for volunteers to coordinate our annual Moms and Muffins/Dads and Donuts, and other fundraising and events.

The PTA is open to parents, teachers, grandparents, and even community members. Membership fees are $8 for faculty, $10 for individuals, and $18 for families. If you complete a PTA membership at Friday’s Meet and Greet, we’ll enter your student(s)’ teacher(s)’ names into a drawing for a basket of school supplies to start the year off right!

And if you don’t believe us on why you should join, here are 10 reasons from Believe Kids: http://www.slideshare.net/believekids/10-reasons-to-join-the-pta.

If you can’t stop by to chat with us on Friday, we hope we’ll see you at the first PTA meeting at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2, or at the Discovery Open House on Tuesday, Sept. 16. And you can sign up to receive this PTA blog to keep up with the fun activities that will be going on this year at Discovery.

Here’s to a great school year!
